Georgetown Eagle Tennis ~ GET

Anderson by Galen Wellnicki

08-22-21

After posting one-sided victories over Vista Ridge, 19-0 (29-0 overall), and Austin Anderson, 18-1 (27-3 overall), the Georgetown Eagles will open District 25-5A competition at 4 p.m. Tuesday when they entertain Cedar Park at the Minzenmayer Tennis Center.

The Eagles, now 8-2 on the season, and Timberwolves met in the finals of the district tournament last season with coach Suzanne Kidd's team claiming a 10-0 victory en route to the third round of the 5A state playoffs where they were eliminated by perennial state power Alamo Heights.

Georgetown's only setbacks this season have been to 6A powers Lake Travis and San Antonio Reagan.

In the win over Anderson on Friday, the Eagles received regulation doubles victories from: Zach Miller-Jace Knauth, Chancy Knauth-David Zambrano and Mason Mays and Nate Cretella in boys doubles; Ava Sieckmann-Elaine Flachs, Isa Cepeda-Mackenzie Watford and Macey and Madison Strait in girls doubles; and Thor Sieckmann and Sierra Worsham in mixed doubles.

On the singles ladder, Ava Sieckmann, Cepeda, Flachs, Watford and the Straits claimed girls victories, while Miller, J. Knauth, Zambrano, T. Sieckmann and C. Knauth won on the boys' side.

The only setback was in boys singles.

After playing Cedar Park, Georgetown is scheduled to play a 4 p.m. non-district match with Dripping Springs on the neutral Westwood courts.

District action will resume on Tuesday, Aug. 31, when GHS plays host to Marble Falls at 4 p.m. on the Minzenmayer courts.
