Defending District 25-5A team tennis champion Georgetown opened its quest for a repeat Tuesday at the Minzenmayer Tennis Center with a dominating 18-1 victory over Cedar Park, last season's runner-up.

The Eagles won all seven doubles matches and 11 of the 12 singles frays. Including five of the 19 regulation matches played in pony sets, GHS won 21 sets in which the Timberwolves were beaten by love scores.

After dispatching Cedar Park, the Eagles, 9-2 for the season, are scheduled to face Dripping Springs in a non-district outing at 4 p.m. Friday on the neutral Westwood High School courts.

Georgetown will return to district action this coming Tuesday when it plays host to Marble Falls at 4 p.m. at the Minzenmayer Tennis Center. The Eagles will follow that up with a non-district match at 4 p.m. Wednesday at home against traditionally tough Round Rock Westwood.

The Eagles claimed their seven doubles victories from the boys pairings of Zach Miller and Alex Sieckmann, Jace Knauth and David Zambrano and Chancy Knauth and Nate Cretella along with the girls combinations of Ava Sieckmann and Elaine Flachs, Isa Cepeda and Mackenzie Watford and the Straits, Macey and Madison. Thor Sieckmann and Sierra Worsham provided the mixed doubles victory.

Sweeping the six girls singles matches, allowing CP to win only two games, were Cepeda, Sieckmann, Flachs, Watford, Macey Strait and Madison Strait. The five boys singles wins were by Miller, Zambrano, Thor Sieckmann, C. Knauth and Riley Fonseca.

Cedar Park's lone win came in No. 2 boys singles.

Counting all matches played by the two district rivals GHS won 25 of 26.

While the varsity is busy next week, the JV will open its season at 4 p.m. Monday at Austin Anderson.
